“Tank” the sweet Pit Bull

Here is my Cousin Daniel’s dog “Tank” that I painted for him for his Birthday!
This is an 11″ x 14″ matted & framed Pen & Ink with Acrylics on Animation Cell.
I love doing these animation cell paintings. The materials are fun to use, and I’m always delighted by the results.
I’ve always loved drawing with the pen & ink,  you can achieve some beautiful lines with it. The only disadvantage of this technique is that you have to paint backwards so you have to think carefully what you want to see first. Also, its very important that each layer be completely dry or some of the paint will peel off. Its tricky, but once you understand how each of the materials work together its so fun.
You can see the different steps to creating one of these pieces below.
Hope you try it out. If you have any questions please let me know I would love to help  🙂

The Story!

Here is a Portrait of Lucy a very sweet Great Dane that I had the honor of painting. My client told me wonderful stories about her beloved Lucy and that is how I was able to capture her sweet nature. Lucy recently passed and it is such a comfort to my client to have her beautiful face smiling back at her.

It is in the stories you tell me about your furry kids that ignite my imagination to paint your pet how you see them. I’ll draw 3 sketches for you and then you get to decide which one is the one you love the most, then I begin the painting.

My standard sizes are an  8″x8″ acrylic on wood portrait is  $210.00, the 12″x12″ is $420.00 each, with each portraits you receive a set of 5 Bookmarks from my collection. If you would like to have larger paintings done with multiple pets please contact me at callmaggie@yahoo.com and we will work out the details. Thank You!

Parade of Pigs

A Couple of weeks ago a friend of mine asked me if I would paint a piggy bank for the United Way fundraiser. Above you can see my piggy I named “Love Your Animals”.

Tonight, November 30th from 5 to 7 pm at Gateway Bank on Silver Springs Blvd., you can come out and see all of the creative pigs’ people painted at the “Parade of Pigs” showcase. To view the pigs is FREE, however, they are serving a casual dinner of pulled pork sandwich, side dish, brownies, chips and soft drinks for $10.00 each.

Hope you will stop by and see some awesome piggies 😉

The Cat Walk Wall

On Wednesday August 18th, my husband Kent, my son Lucas & I spent the day in  the middle Cat room at the Humane Society of Marion County. I had already done some work there earlier this year, but we still had to finish the Cat Walk Wall. My husband had a great idea in mind of what would be fun for the kitties, and boy was he right.

Above are some of the pictures from that day, and as you can see there are a lot of happy cats exploring the wall. The first photo showcases the whole wall and all the tubes and boards that we put up so the kitties would have a place to hang out, literally 😉 You can see me busy painting & touching up the walls that I painted a soft lavender. My husband and son are the ones wearing the black shirts and Bruce Fishalow, the Executive Director, is in the green shirt checking out our progress. Everyone at the Humane Society specially Bruce, Lyn Zambito & Mary Wrye were thrilled with the way it all turned out. They are such such Angels! The best reward for all our hard work, was seeing the kitties having a fabulous time on the cat walk. There are so many sweet and gorgeous cats there ready to find someone to love and care for them, could you be one of them? I hope you can stop by and see the Cat Walk Wall and maybe meet a new companion 🙂

When I was there I asked myself, If you look at the cost of becoming a member of the Humane Society which is as little as $15 a year  and think about how much that money can help all of them and think about how many cups of coffee you can buy at Starbucks for that, maybe 4, I think we could all brew some coffee at home and help out all these sweet animals and the amazing people that take care of them. Please Think about donating to your local shelter and you will feel like the white Kitty in the picture above, Blissfully Happy!

Luna

Luna

Here is my Painting of “Luna” its 30″ square.

This is my blue eyed Overo Paint that I’ve had since he was three years old, he is twelve now. I love this horse deeply. He is in my soul. I always refer to him as my “dog horse”, because he is loyal like a dog, follows me around like a dog and is always hungry  🙂

This painting shows how I see Luna, confident, playful and in motion. Enjoy!

Bianca

Bianca1

This is “Bianca” she is 30″square.

I created three paintings with a kaleidoscope of color and motion filled backgrounds. The most important element in all my paintings is the eyes. Its the one feature I spend the most time on, because it is the eyes that engage you and tells the emotion of the subject.

Empty Space

“Valentino” is 24″ wide by 48″ tall. Its a nice size painting with Valentino anchoring and relaxing at the bottom of the Canvas. I have stared a lot at this painting asking whether or not to add something to that empty space, but each time I draw an image to place there, there is a little voice saying leave it alone, so I am. I think the empty space grabs you and Valentino holds you in it!

A Little Different

This is one of the new piece I just finished.

“I Miss My Angels” is 2′ wide by 5′ 2″ inches tall. I used Charcoal, and Water Color Pencils. It is very different than the bold colorful portraits I usually do because the subject matter is that of remembering my two dogs who still hold a piece of my heart.

Personal Greeting Cards

Greeting Cards have always been a big part of my life, not only in buying and sending them out but also writing and Illustrating them. I used to work for Shoebox Greetings ( a tiny division of Hallmark Cards), in Kansas City, Mo., and then as a freelanced artist & writer for different Greeting Card Companies.  I am often commissioned to do one of a kind greeting cards for special occasions but have never advertised this as part of Maggie’s Angels. As am getting more request for personal gift services, I offering personal greeting cards as part of my line. This card is a sample of a card I just finished for a client who is now a friend of mine that is not well. I’m showing her two dogs taking advantage of her recovery, hopefully, she will get a giggle out of it every time she sees it. I know how special these cards can be and what a keepsake they become. If you would like me to create a personal Greeting Card for you or someone you love please call, or email me for details.
