My Son’s First Art Debut

This is my 13 year old son Max in his first Art Exhibition showcasing his Photographs. The Marion Cultural Alliance is having  a show called “FINS, FEATHERS & FUR” at the Artful Gallery in the Circle Square Commons. The show runs from January 21st through February 26th, 2011. The Opening Reception was Friday, January 21st, from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm. This show is very special because my husband, my son, and I are exhibiting together in one show. I believe this is very special & who knows when it will happen again. I am beaming with excitement. Our night was wonderful! Nancy Ledding, the executive director of MCA, was very kind and gave Max so many compliments about this great accomplishment. It was fun seeing him acting very mature, and answering questions about his photos. He did a really great job. I’m so proud of him. He seemed to love all the attention he received. There were many people at the show and a lot of friendly faces showed up giving him enormous support and you could see how proud he was to talk about and showcase his photos. We were so disappointed we had to leave early than we wanted to, because my other son Lucas’ Robotics club were done earlier than expected and his school was on the other side of town. People were starting to pour into the gallery as we were coming out. Regardless, it was a huge success in our eyes. We left with big smiles on our faces. It was wonderful that Max’s first taste of being an artist was very positive.I am so Thankful for the wonderful support & encouragement of our friends and colleagues. I am blessed to have such a support system.

I hope you get to go out & see it this marvelous show.

If you would like to see more of Max’s Photographs please got to maxweakley.com

I Love this quote about sons, I truly believe it. You don’t raise heroes, you raise sons. And if you treat them like sons, they’ll turn out to be heroes, even if it’s just in your own eyes.”

My Bank of America Art Show

httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ER3tN3zBC4Y

From December 1, 2009 to January 5, 2010 my Paintings and Giclees will be on exhibition at the Downtown Bank of America in Ocala, Florida.

This is a video of the Reception were you can see the paintings I have on display. The Reception was on Dec. 4th and it was wonderful! Its amazing seeing all of my work in one space.

Many people showed up and the best part was I sold two paintings that day.

“The Enchanted Trail”

The EnchantedTrail

and “Bianca”.

Bianca

I’ve had so many wonderful comments about my work which brings a smile to my heart.

I hope you get to go see it, if you do, would love to know what you think, and if you can’t then I hope this video will make you feel like you did!  🙂

Luna

Luna

Here is my Painting of “Luna” its 30″ square.

This is my blue eyed Overo Paint that I’ve had since he was three years old, he is twelve now. I love this horse deeply. He is in my soul. I always refer to him as my “dog horse”, because he is loyal like a dog, follows me around like a dog and is always hungry  🙂

This painting shows how I see Luna, confident, playful and in motion. Enjoy!

Bianca

Bianca1

This is “Bianca” she is 30″square.

I created three paintings with a kaleidoscope of color and motion filled backgrounds. The most important element in all my paintings is the eyes. Its the one feature I spend the most time on, because it is the eyes that engage you and tells the emotion of the subject.

Bianca2

Empty Space

“Valentino” is 24″ wide by 48″ tall. Its a nice size painting with Valentino anchoring and relaxing at the bottom of the Canvas. I have stared a lot at this painting asking whether or not to add something to that empty space, but each time I draw an image to place there, there is a little voice saying leave it alone, so I am. I think the empty space grabs you and Valentino holds you in it!

Art Exhibit

The Month of December I will be exhibiting brand new art work at the downtown Bank of America in Ocala, Florida. I’m having a Reception on December 4th from 12:00 pm- 5:00pm. I’ll be there giving out Free bookmarks and have refreshments for everyone that comes. I hope to see you there.

I will show my signature Maggie’s Angels colorful style, but bolder & bigger- well Huge! The paintings are very large, and hopefully people will find them engaging. I am a bit nervous about showing all by myself, because it is the first time in a solo show.

As an artist you put a little piece of your heart, mind and soul for people to look at and sometimes judge, I just have to remember to keep breathing 😉

So, I was asked to write an “About Me” piece for the Show so people can see a picture and learn a little about me. It has always been hard for me to say as much as I can with as little words as possible, although it is getting easier now that I’m practicing on Twitter, it has certainly helped with that, LOL!

I would love for you to take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks!

Artful Giving

Debby Miller, Barbra Hernandez, Jessica McCune, Nancy Ledding and Rob BushfieldMe too!

Artful Giving is a wonderful event that transforms the Marion Cultural Alliance (MCA) into a Christmas boutique. This is the second year MCA brings unique, affordable gifts handcrafted by local artists to the Brick City Center for the Arts.

We had so much fun celebrating the grand opening. There was wonderful Christmas music, refreshments and of course a lot of art ranging in prices that brought a smile to all the holiday shoppers. So, from Nov. 18 through Dec. 23 drop by, and get anything from Christmas trinkets, ornaments, to Ocala/Marion County-themed creations. Your purchase benefits our local artists and the work of MCA. You can see a variety of my work there too.

If you drop by be sure to meet the fantastic people that keep MCA filled with holiday cheer. From left to right on the above pictures is Debby Miller, Barbra Hernandez, Jessica McCune, yours truly, Nancy Ledding and Rob Bushfield.

Hope to see you there! Merry Christmas!!!!

Barkitecture 2007

Here is another Marion Cultural Alliance and Humane Society of Marion County fundraising project that I participated in that featured my Angels. Barkitecture was a terrific project were local Architects designed Dog Houses that would then be auctioned off to benefit these organizations. I helped create a house we called Cracker HoundsPaddock Park Animal Care Center sponsored it, Schatt Construction, Inc. built it, and I added my Angels to it.    It was a wonderful collaboration, that turned out great, did really well at auction, and a wonderful couple took it home to their little Angels. Scroll down Dogtownflorida.com to see more details of our Dog House. You can also see some pictures of the auction which was held at Custom Window System in Ocala.

Bark About Art Show 2007

The third Bark About Art Show was the biggest yet. So many people showed up with their dogs ready to view demonstrations, take in the art and even buy it!

This year, Maggie’s Angels showcased the product line offered on the Merchandise link on my website. There you can see each of the portraits that I’ve done and their product lines. It is exciting for me to offer all these products to my clients and be able to sell them around the world in the cafepress marketplace.

My sisters Maru and Hilda came out again this year to help me out. I really can’t do it without them, because when I am speaking to my clients they are selling my products. I sold a ton of merchandise as well as getting many Commissions that day. Another terrific show benefiting the Marion Cultural Alliance and the Humane Society of Marion County!

Bark About Art 2006

The second annual Marion Cultural Alliance and Marion County Humane Society“Bark About Art Show was a huge success for Maggie’s Angels. Storms were predicted but held off and the crowds turned out again for this great event. Many artist and vendors showed off what they had as pet owners showed off their little Angels some even in outfits and strollers, a great sight to see.

Maggie’s Angels have grown to offer Original Art, Custom Pet Portraits, and many new items such as 8″ square & 12″ square prints, Jewelry, Keychains, and Bookmarks. My two Sisters, Maru to my left and Hilda to my right, came out to help me sell, and did a FANTASTIC Job! I Thank them so much for making it super fun and very successful, could not do it without you girls!!!!

I also wanted to Thank Ocala Style, once again, for featuring my Bulldog on the cover of the January issue and the article, I’ve received many Commissions due to that article. Barking good time had by all!

Bark About Art Show 2005

The first Bark About Art Show and Maggie’s Angels are a natural fit.

The downtown was filled with dogs walking their pets  🙂   Every breed seemed to be present and even some dressed to impress. It was terrific fun seeing so many people come out with their dogs and enjoy the beautiful day, all the art and pet products this show had to offer.

The Marion Cultural Alliance and The Humane Society of Marion County were the ones that put this show together and would benefit from its success. Special thanks to my sister Maru for all her much-needed assistance, could not have done it without her!

Many people were really excited about my work and even commissioned me to paint their little Angels. A tail-wagging good time had by all. Check out some more photos courtesy of Ocala Style.

The Star-Banner Newspaper Story

Promotional articles came out in the magazines and in the newspapers for the 2005 Bark About Art Show. One of the stories featured Holly, her painting and me downtown Ocala where the art show was held. Here is the photo from the Ocala Star-Banner article with the Bark About Art mascot “Holly”.

Bark About Art Poster 2005

The Marion Cultural Alliance and the Marion County Humane Society put together a “Dog Art Show” called “Bark About Art” and asked my husband & I to create the Poster for the event. I created  “Holly” the Chihuahua, one of the organizer’s dog as the mascot for the event. I had been working on my new company Maggie’s Angels and this show will be a great opportunity to launch my pet portraits. Once I created the painting of Holly, my husband Kent, who is a Graphic Designer for his company Blue Sky Graphic Communications, Inc., designed the promotional poster featuring Holly. The portrait and poster drew a huge crowd for the inaugural dog art festival held in downtown Ocala. It was a great event with profits going to Marion Cultural Alliance and the Marion County Humane Society.

Painting Celeste & Horsefly Video

I wanted to include my experience of the 2001 MCA Horse Fever project on this blog because even though it took place so long ago, it was a fundraiser that really started our involvement in our community. My husband, Kent Weakley, and I participated in this Public Art project created and benefiting MCA along with other local charities that brought business and artist together to create Art on Fiberglass horses which were displayed all over Ocala. The public loved the horses and was visited by thousands. The 53 Horse Fever Horses sold at auction for 1.2 million dollars going to local charities.

Our garage became a temporary stable housing 3 horses. I painted Celeste and Horsefly and Kent painted Lucky. Kent also did all the promotional designs, the Logos, t-shirts, posters, etc. We had a month to paint them, and we used up every hour of those days. Kent, shot a time-lapse video and sped it up, so you can see the painting process in fast motion, (I wish I could paint that fast).

Click on the names of the horses to watch the videos of; CelesteHorsefly, Lucky.
